I don't expect grammer errors in a college textbook. It is an okay book, but the grammer and flow of ideas makes it seem like it was written by someone who didn't even go to college.
This was probably the best investment I've made during my whole MBA program. It teaches you the time value of money, how to diversify a stock portfolio, and how to retire with the amount of money you think you will need.
This book was in good condition and cheaper than anywhere else, I would recommend this purchase. I actually did not need the book for my class and returning it was no problem.
This book seems to have good information. The formulas are extremely useful in assisting with calculations. However, being a novice to complex financial management, this book is not for beginners. I still recommend the book for the calculation formulas and the definitions.
I think this textbook has a good explanation of Finance as well as bountiful resources on its
website such as spreadsheets. The only problem I have with the book is that I wish it had more
visuals for teaching demonstration.
Worst college text I have ever used. Textbook is cumbersome in layout and focuses primarily on calculator solutions. Very difficult to follow and to search through for a specific topic. Our university is dropping it for another Excel based book next term. Too bad for us we are stuck with it!
I purchased this book as a required text for an online finance class for my MBA degree. This book occasionally explained things well, but for the most part was a terrible read and horrible at explaining the concepts. The price is highway robbery for what you are getting. Be prepared to have to supplement this book with other readings, as I often had to consult other sources to figure out what the writers were trying to explain. It might work better if you are in a classroom setting with a professor, but in an online class where you are essentially teaching yourself it was often useless. I learned more through online search than I did from reading this book and I feel sorry for those who have to buy this as a required text for a class. Knowing what I know now I'd have waited a semester for an on campus class or a different professor with different book requirements. If this isn't a required read, run away now- you have better things to spend your money on, trust me!
This textbook does an awful job of explaining concepts and seems very unorganized. I was extremely happy when I finished my course because I knew that I would no longer have to spend endless hours surfing this book.
The book content is fine but the kindle app that I downloaded had no page numbers or page number er navigation so this left me completely frustrated in class when the teacher says turn to page 573 and look at the chart.
I am currently going through this book as part of my MBA curriculum. My MBA program is a top-ranked program rated by BusinessWeek and USNews and my professor is really intelligent and has a lot of experience in the finance industry. While the professor is a great lecturer, this book really nails in the basic concepts and breaks down the complex concepts. It is important to pace yourself in this book i.e. if you nothing about finance, really focus on the first six chapters first and make sure you understand them before moving. Or, if you are a finance expert looking to refresh your memory, skip the first six chapters, and then read the rest in greater detail depending on which topic you are looking to refresh.
All in all, not the greatest finance textbook by any means, but it has still served me really well in my class and I will probably keep it for a while to come.
This book was in good condition. The book satisfied my needs for a business course so I was pleased with the transaction.
This is an awful text book. The explanations are unclear and contain significant errors. The book has a strong tendency to explain by going through a very specific example, but with little or no discussion of the generalities of the concept. The outcome is that you will do great in situations or problems that exactly mirror the example, but will not know what to do about any situations which vary at all from the example given. The chosen examples often leave out entire categories of information. Terrible teaching book.
Needed this book for a Master's Level course. It is useful for that but I would not have purchased otherwise. It is a financial overview of many concepts taught at an undergraduate level.
The book is really mediocre at best. Very few concepts are explained in a simple way, and the majority of things are explained in such a round about way that you get a headache trying to figure out what the author is saying.
This was for an MBA finance class and after reading a couple of chapters I stopped reading the book and relied on just taking better than usual notes. I passed with flying colors and it was because I stopped reading the book.
Don't get me started on the highway robbery of a price.
Seriously, if your professor does any decent work at lecturing you're better off without it.
This book actually does a good job of teaching Financial principles; easy reading and well thought out.The examples showing how to use Excel are for the most part easy to follow and the steps to use the financial calculator are dummy proof.
While there was nothing wrong with the access code that came with the book, my professor actually uses CengageBrain which is an entirely different access code which cost $80. The access code in the book is for a Thomas Business website that is not at all helpful in reviewing for the course. Waste of my money, should have just purchased the book without the access code if I would have known our teacher was using a different site.
I rented the eBook version of this only to find later that it did not have the Page ISBN and therefore no page numbers. This is a huge waste of time especially for a text book. The author and publisher should consider making this a standard on all future releases of the text. The contents of the book were riddled with egregious errors specifically in the excel examples. It makes it difficult to follow advanced concepts such as option valuation when the examples provided are not clear and mistake free. Further the e-version of this book contained several typo's something that I would not expect of an e-version of anything much less a text book.
So disappointed that I did not receive the shipment. This is the first time that happened to me. The good part is the credit was fast when I reported that I believe the shipment was lost. I do recommend that a tracking information be provided even if the 3rd party was the one who is sending it.
Book arrived loosely packed in an oversize box smashed to approximate thickness of the book without any padding and sealed with duct tape. Book itself has damage on all corners and edges and shows signs of water absorbtion as if it had been exposed to steam. bottom edge has staining from being thumbed through. Seller may not have used the book much but somebody did and I doubt that it was a postal employee.
reat book. Very clear and concise! It takes the time to walk the reader through various methods to calculate and solve problems. I strongly recommend this book for Financial Studies.
